Er! It may be Ok for you in the US but my phone number is Ex-Directory
and my phone has 'number withheld activated so if I called you you
cannot get my number by dialing 1471 here in the UK - my name and
address is not published on any "voters list" so casual nosey parkers
cannot visit the local Post Office or Library to see where I am or my
address but this info is available to finance companies and other such
institutions that require it for validation purposes.
That is not to say that nobody knows me or my phone number but it is
very difficult to trace my location and telephone number through simple
traditional means here in the UK.
If someone has their phone number withheld from Joe Public then respect
that, just as you would want it respected.
I do have access to sensitive information but never use it for my own
purposes - if it's listed ex-directory then I wait until I meet them and
ask for the phone number. Ethics play a lot in society even if we want
the software for nothing.
