Hi Bill,

I had similar trouble fixing Wifi for my landlord (similar type of house, I guess). The secret was to put the router in a central location. I have also tried - unsuccessfully - a range extender (it's for sale, if I can find it under all that dust!).

Regards,

Subject: LinkSys WRT54GX4 with SRX400

I have been considering replacing my trusty old v. 1 LinkSys WRT54G router
with something newer. The 54G still works fine but am in need of something
that will give me more range. The proximate reason for doing this is that we are putting in a new shop building out back of the house and I want to put a machine out there that will be connected wirelessly to the rest of the home
LAN. We live in an old 1920s vintage farm house and the 54G won't quite
reach the living room at the further corner of the house (although it DOES
reach the bedroom immediately above the living room...) so I am sure it
isn't going to punch out to the back yard.

Since I have had such yeoman service from the 54G, the current front runner
to be its replacement is the LinkSys WRT54GX4 with SRX400. I have read
consistently positive reviews of the product but I generally value to
opinions of most of the folks here over those from elsewhere so thought I
would check here before deciding for sure.
