Hi folks
I forgot the many people that asked for this utility so I have taken the
liberty to post the instructions here.
Remember folks it is a DOS program (or 2) so needs a command prompt
window. I ran them from a BAT file written in notepad but I am sure one
of you lot can compile a windows program to run them and reboot the
computer.
C'mon Wayne get started and send it to me - Oops you didn't ask for a
copy... I'll send you one anyway off list.
Hugh
Instructions.
Put the 2 files "SAVECMOS.COM" & "LOADCMOS.COM" in the rood of C drive
- or anywhere else you feel like but remember where they are.
Now - presuming they are in the root of C.
go to START and select run. Type COMMAND and in the dos window (make
sure it states C:\ in the top left corner type in
savecmos <filename> REMEMBER THIS IS A DOS PROGRAM so no more than 8
letters.
"savecmos P4-test" is a good one to start with (if you have a P4 CPU)
Now if you remember how to write a BAT file you can have several setups
for different things like boot from CD boot from Hdd2 boot from Floppy -
whatever.
Remember also that as you are going to be writing to the BIOS you will
have to reboot for the new setting to work so if you run the BAT that
you create it will pull up a command window and then you can reboot
after.
I did write another interface in visual basic but so long ago I forgot
about it and it went about 4 years ago but I am sure you can write a
compiled prog to run it from windows inc a reboot call to the kernel.
I just put the BAT files (written in Notepad)
copy the example in notepad and save it with the extension BAT instead
of TXT and save to the desktop.
