Al,

I have 2 Rio Forges, a Rio 500 (in a drawer somewhere), a MobiBlu Cube, and
an iPod and all are different. The Rios require special software to
recognize the Audible Files, but music can be dragged (as I remember -- not
sure, I don't put much music on them); the Cube acts as a simple usb key
device -- just drag and drop, but it doesn't recognize Audible files -- I
overcome this by turning Audible files into MP3's with Goldwave; and the
iPod is a bit of a hybrid (I can drag stuff to it and copy it to another
computer, but it won't play the dragged files if they are music -- I have to
use that lousy iTunes).

Therefore, I would hate to guess what the iRiver wants from you. I would
suggest trying all of the options, and then formatting the player if one of
them goes awry. I hesitate to ask, but have you read the manual ;-)?
Admittedly, the manuals don't always show you all the options. There might
be a users group at the iRiver site, too,
http://www.iriveramerica.com/support/ultra/t30.aspx as well as info and
maybe firmware upgrades.

Sharol

Aren't there any mp3 player users out there?
