I tend to agree with you !
One of the issues over here is that the consumer is expected to do some
recycling, Newspapers, Glass, Metal and in some areas Plastics !
However the Dealer / Seller / Reseller / Manufacturer of goods is now
obliged to accept old product taken back to them ! The assumption is
that the Dealer will carry the can ( Costs ) for the recycling !
The problem with this is that only the large firms can afford to provide
for a chain of support back to the recycling source ! The small firms
have to find a method of support which requires that we have to pay
fees to the recycling companies in order to fulfil a legal obligation !
Not all recycling companies will accept all types of goods for return !
That means in some cases, that we have to find and use more than one
recycler, increasing our costs even more !!
The only way we can afford to do this is by charging the customer a fee
to accept their old goods ! This we can now do. But the effect that
this has had, is to increase dumping of unwanted goods ! We have even
had customers who have refused to pay a fee, and simply dumped old kit
outside the premises in the street !
A prosecutable offence I know ! But reporting them would just alienate
customers that would otherwise bring in income !
