Sorry, I don't know - I've always had a valid version installed ( as per the box/licence) before using an upgrade version
I'd be in breach of the licence if I hadn't. Is sending in proof of purchase of an old version is for when you buy from Symantec at the price for the full version, and want the 'upgrade discount' ?
