Take this idea w/a large bag of salt,
cause it just popped out of my tired brain
and I've never tried something like this, BUT,
thinking about how the wiper programs work
(at least, some of them), what if you create
a file with, let's say, all "a", one next to the other,
and give the file a size to fill the minimum file size
your device will accept and then copy this file around
(use a macro) until your device gives "full". Of course,
you would start this process with your device totally
empty of files.

If it sounds quick and dirty is because it is.
BUT, wouldn't it work?

Just brainstorming, here.

Can anyone suggest a good way to wipe an external USB drive? I tried deleting the partition, and then a reformat, but I can still recover data from the drive using recovery tools.

They make DOS programs like Wipe Drive (accessdata.com), but they don't seem to work on USB devices.
