"Out by the airport" isn't really Philly, it's Tinicum or Prospect Park if
she doesn't have a 191(53) zip.
Tell her to go the Verizon.com website FAQS section and plug her new
address in and she'll find out if naked DSL is available at that location.
For the most part, it is available in Philly if you ask for it. They just
don't brag about it.
If her location is close enough to the central office, she can also opt for
cavalier's DSL for even less money than verizon. As for cable, Comcast is
around 65.00 just for internet service. $45.00 when bought with cable
service.

Subject: Verizon DSL in Philly area
Anyone here from philly? my daughter is moving there next week and is
getting her utilities set up. There is some confusion between her and
her roommate and verizon (mostly between the roomates i think) over
internet services that are available - specifically if they can get
DSL without a landline phone. I know a few places now allow it, often
with a vacation plan.
They both have cell phones (on their parents family plan) and don't
need a landline. I told them just to get cable and internet through
cable and be done with it but they don't listen to me - they just bug
me with questions. (like 'i have to pay taxes and it's like 30% of my
income?????' <g>)
if it makes a diff, she'll be out by the airport.
