Are the speed test sites and tests fairly reliable?
With my DirecWay connection I get readngs of 775/200, or thereabouts,
with speakeasy, but it sure doesn't seem that fast!
If you are talking about the speakeasy.net sites. I've found them to usually
be pretty reliable. You'll get varying results from the different locations.
Remember when posting results to include units as that is significant. Here
are my results:
All results show download/upload values and units are kbps:
Seattle: 6057/469
SanFrancisco: 5892/467
LosAngeles: 6776/468
Dallas: 7362/469
Chicago: 8199/469
Atlanta: 8178/470
NewYork: 8121/467
WashingtonDC: 8236/469
How fast is yours supposed to be, what does your ISP advertise? That's the
key to whether you're getting what you paid for or not.
In my case I have a 7Mb(7168kbps) connection, so right now I'm getting a
good connection mostly over my advertised rate. It's also interesting to
note that the fastest times are not necessarily the closest to me. That's
because it depends on the route taken.
Here's a good collection of speed tests:
