Thanks, so much, Hugh, but I'm still stuck trying to connect and update 
the usenet servers.

So, the above is as far as I've configured.

POINT:  I'm not using my ISP for anything, but a different set of servers 
all together.......same server group, though.

My ISP is directway(hughes), but I don't use them for anything other 
than accessing the net.

Also, I used the settings that garlic.com gave me for my mail and news.

MUST I use my ISP for this?????

I'll keep playing around with it.  I still get the same error message:  502 - 
no permission.

Don't understand that, though.......unless one has to have special 
permission to access the news server.
