I have a home network setup I have used without issue for quite some time.
Recently added a laptop (with MCE 2005) to the wireless access for my
daughter. This past week added a "new" computer to the wireless portion that
had been wired (and changed os from WinXP Pro to WinXP MCE). Noticed a
problem when trying to print from the laptop to the MCE wireless system.
I am using a D-Link DGL-4300 router with 108G wireless (running at 54 in
this environment). All computers use sygate firewall, WinXP Pro SP2 or MCE
2005, onboard NIC. Total of three wired systems and two wireless systems.
The MCE system uses a Motorola WE800G Wireless 802.11g Ethernet Bridge for
the wireless access.
>From the wired computers I can see and access everything except the laptop
(which I can see in my network places but cannot access shared folders).
>From the laptop, I can see and access the three wired computers, but not the
other wireless computer (with MCE) which I can see, but not access.
>From the new MCE wireless computer, I can see and access everything except
the laptop (which I can see, but not access).
For the attempts to see the laptop or MCE wireless, I get the error message
"{computer name} is not accessible. You might not have permission ot use
this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."
Sygate firewall is set up to allow Network Neighborhood connections. Windows
firewall is disabled. In Security Center, the firewall is handled
differently on different computers:
1. (wired). Windows firewall is disabled (in yellow) and it says that I have
informed the system that another firewall is protecting the system and I am
monitoring the program.
2. (wired) Windows firewall is disabled but the display is in green and it
says that Sygate Personal Firewall is currently on. (i.e., it recognizes the
firewall by name).
3. (wired) Same as #1.
4. (wireless MCE 2005) Same as #1.
5. (wireless Laptop with MCE 2005). Same as #2.
To summarize:
- Every computer except the laptop is accessible from all the wired and MCE
Wireless systems.
- The laptop can access all systems except the other wireless (MCE) system.
- Nothing can access the laptop.
The Wireless router can see all the systems.
The laptop is an HP Pavilion dv5140us with a ML-37 AMD Turion cpu, 2G RAM,
integrated 801.11a/b/g networking running MCE 2005.
All systems are patched and up-to-date.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim Maki
