When I opened the message, I found that Rick Glazier had written:

In a recent thread, I think people wanted to copy and paste
in the Acrobat Reader.

It is just not as easy to get to now...
I use ver 7 now, and they moved the "T" button off the button bar.
(OR my settings are not tweaked enough), and I found it in
Tools, Basic, Select... (I liked it better with a button...) ;-(

As did I!

However, if I use the camera and use the "paste special", first option,
it works just fine.

Still haven't figured how to save the selected area to a viewable .jpg or
.gif graphic file.

The Select tool is on my toolbar, but all it will do is select text. It doesn't select the entire image. As far as I remember(not too far nowadays!) it never did.

On another note, you were talking about it opening within the browser, that is configurable within Adobe Reader. Go to Edit/Preferences and the Internet Category, uncheck "Display PDF in browser". It will go through an update screen and will require a reboot of your system(at least mine did). You should now find your example will open in a separate Adobe Reader window and not within IE.
