The brief(haha) answer for Comcast of Philly:
In Ref to splitting the signal:
They don't know if you don't tell them and they really have nothing to say
about it since it's legal. The problem is she'll mostly only be able to get
local channels without a box unless Comcast has screwed up again and not
encrypyted their signal as they had done last year. If she does too many
splits off the line coming into the house and gets a really poor signal,
then she'll need a booster installed by comcrap.
To my knowledge, in the Comcast home territory, only in Philly do you need a
box for the additional regular cable channels because it was put in as a
city ordinance by our illustrious city council members for the benefit of
their favorite political $$ giver(Comcast) years ago. Elsewhere, in South
Jersey and Bucks Cty, PA you just plug the coax into the back of the TV and
watch to your hearts content unless you want digital, then you need a box
for each tv.

So the real question... do cable companies still get PO'd if you split>
the signal to other TVs without paying a per TV fee? Will it work to> put
the splitter behind the box? I have no idea what TV she has - but>
assuming it's cable ready, will she need a box with it too, or only if>
she wants certain channels?
