Get a CD/floppy/USB based disk imager because you do not want to copy the OS while you are using it
Alternatively use Ghost, or Trueimage to image the partition, and then load that image onto the new drive. Check that the new drive boots when the old drive is not in the system ( interface, or power line pulled) I would have said the alternative was to install an OS on the hard drive, and then use that new OS to copy the old one to a new place on the new drive .. but as you haven't got a XP CD then that's only an option if you have an OS CD that will let you copy the partition If you image the drive as a partition, then the restore should not worry about the format of the partition - just do a sector by sector copy. If you have an alternate PC then you could use that to copy using the other systems old, and new drives as 'guests' JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pete Holsberg" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 17, 2006 11:09 PM Subject: Installing a new HD > If I replace my primary HD, how do I copy XP Pro from my old one?
