Anything you did with UPnP would not prevent the computer from booting. When you use a bootable CD or floppy and get an A: prompt, the computer has booted - but it is not running Windows.
You need to get the XP CD back and see if you can boot from it. If it boots, you can try to repair the Windows XP installation. If it doesn't boot, you've got some kind of hardware failure. As an addendum to last night's posts describing my problems getting to a windows interface, I tried all suggestions today and still no success. I can load free dos but the computer will not recognize the floppy nor will it boot from the CDrom. It goes to an A prompt and goes no further. Is it possible that I did this when, following directions from Port Forwarding, I unchecked enable Upnp port while trying to set a static address in the router? Will that take out plug and play features? If so, how can I fix this? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
