ME ????? Is it worth using ME when there are so many 98 CDs about. Never
touched it myself but from what I hear - don't touch ME with a barge pole (long
stick)
The "biggest?" advantage with Me is the Flash drive drivers being built in...
(Ever try to get 5 or 6 different flash drive to work in the same computer in
Win98
or Win98SE?
The worst thing is it is harder to "fix" when you need DOS...
I handle that (currently) by getting it running, and capturing some Images of
a "perfect" working system (with all settings and programs)...
Actually, I had one machine I built myself with ME when they came out with
the UpDATE version... (the $50(US) retail boxed version UpDATES Win98 only...)
But I never liked that machine (I think it had an L1 or L2 cache install
problem), and it
sat in my basement unused, except for major Beta tests of non-MS software...
I would beta test the same program on mutiple OSs (different boxes) at the same
time...
The ME part worked great, never gave me a bit of trouble, even with betas
running on it......
In hindsight, I think that was THE MOST stable machine I ever had... (But it is
only
a 233MMX...)
It still runs perfectly today...
I can crash XP easily... (In all fairness, XP has gotten
butchered by all the patches and "improvements" over the years...)
Isn't there a site that looks after the old OSs?
Wasn't that (at least part of) my original question(??) <grin>
Here is a little background... (Not a complete story...)
I was given a 400M PII(III?) "smallOEM" RETAIL Win98SE that I don't
want to break up for parts quite yet...
I was given a CompaQ 400M & a 500M with Win98SE. (Those OS disk are not going to
work anywhere else...)
I was given a Dell 800M running WinME a week or so ago... (Likely BIOS locked,
and again, that OS disk is only for that machine...)
Where are all these Win98SE CDs you refer to? <grin>...
