The catch is, you have no control over the management of your domain name or its DNS servers. If you want mail to deliver elsewhere or host another web server elsewhere, you can't do it with your MS-supported domain name. But if you cancel the account after opening, you supposedly are given control of the domain name that MS has paid-up for the first year.
