Yeah, I saw a lot of posts about that when googling and that's why I started looking for something else. > next tried FileZilla server - seemed like a very good product, however > ended the trial due to unstable handling of very large file transfers > (not proven to be FileZilla's fault, but the client had no time for > further experimentation). Filezilla is what I ended up using on the recommendation of a fellow consultant who is much more FTP Server savvy than me. What do you define as very large file transfers? The client I am using this for has partners that regularly up and download several hundred megabyte files on a regular basis. The system just went "live" today, so haven't gotten all that much feedback yet, however the staff are quite happy to just use network drag and drop to access and update the ftp files rather than having to use an ftp client now that I've shared the ftp root folder to the internal network. > Finally went with WS_FTP - server is great, as their client has always > been, but pricey. Yes, a good product, haven't looked at it in about 4 or 5 years, though I still use one of their older freeware ftp clients occaisionally. > If you go with MS or FZ, here are two solutions for > auto-detection/blocking brute force administrator & dictionary login > attacks: Coolio > *FileZilla*: similar to above, a SourceForge FileZilla companion > project, FileZilla BFD http://sourceforge.net/projects/fzbfd/ Sweet, may give this a try tonight if I get time. > All I need is the same auto-blocking for WS_FTP... I do remember the Ipswitch folks being fairly responsive to feature request back when I was doing some subcontract work for a local isp about 6 years ago.... couldn't hurt to ask if you haven't already. -- Harondel J.
