Okay, client's machine crashed a few weeks ago with a bad hard drive.
Recovered most of her data, did a fresh XP Home install on a new hard drive.
Gave her back her machine and she tried installing her ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0
so she can watch the news while working in the mornings. She advised me that
she has been unable to get it working and after multiple tries, I can't get
it working either, details below.

If you have any suggestions on getting this to work I'd love to hear them, I
did a bit of googling, tried the suggestions in the ATI KB to no avail.

I also own and have owned many ATI TV tuner products, and I was reminded why
I no longer buy ATI TV Tuners as a matter of course, too many problems that
are difficult to troubleshoot.

Anyhow, I'll also try contacting ATI tech support tomorrow.

Note, before the machine crashed the TV tuner was working fine. Motherboard
is an Asus A7V8X-X.

ATI TV Wonder USB is not working, Redownloaded the 4 packages to install
the
TV Wonder USB 2.0 stuff and installed in the order as listed and
recommended
    on the ATI website.

The 3rd package that ATI says to download, xcode3.5179 doesn't work, saying
that need to have the proper hardware installed for it. After reinstalling
all the drivers and software, still doesn't work, swapped usb ports between
the TV Wonder and the keyboard.

Installed version 91.47 of the Nvidia Forceware driver.

Uninstalled all the ATI stuff, removed all the items from Device manager,
shutdown, restarted computer, installed the ATI usb driver installer, it
asked me to attach the ATI device, it loaded the drivers, asked me reboot,
    now, installing the MMC software.

Redid the DirectX 9.0 cd installation, installer says current version is
the
same or later already and won't go any furthter, cancelled it.

Again the xcode component doesn't install with error about wrong hardware,
will try redoing the Windows Media Encoder component as previous ATI
products
    have used that.

Error message when trying to install file 6-8_xcode_35179.exe is

"Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current
hardware or software configuration, please make sure you have the required
    hardware or software".

Running the tv player applet has a dialogue box titled "unable to start tv"
    with text that

"the tv player failed to initialize, check the windows device manager to
ensure that the correct video drivers has been installed and is working
properly before attempting to restart tv"

This has been done, drivers are updated but no joy so far.

Downloaded and installed the Windows Media Encoder 9 software from the MS
website to see if it makes any difference, but don't expect it will. Ran
repair on Windows Media Encoder, the install only gave the choice to remove
or repair, will see if this resolves the issue with tv, but as expected, it
does not. Will do some research and/or contact ATI for a resolution.
