This is an update on a thread from early Dec. 06. I removed the source
of the software that I purchased because I don't know the List's position
on mentioning vendors.
I received the software, and it included 3 CDs. 1 install, 1 drivers, and
1 utilities.
The drive was completely formatted and I installed the software. The
machine originally had XP Home on it and that's what I reinstalled.
The install went well, but I was never asked for any numbers or validation.
I think Dell may have something hard coded into the machine.
It's been 35 days and no problems with the machine. Nothing from Microsoft
and I have done all Microsoft updates (except IE 7).
I also found a company that makes a second HD bay for this machine. I added
another drive and still all is well.
Any one interested in the vendors can contact me off-list.

Irv,

Let us know about your experience with them and if they have the product advertised. I have run across this several times and do understand that it can be nutso....especially with laptops.

Jeff
I did a complete fdisk and removed all partitions.
Thanks to all for the suggestions -- I went through ****** ***** for the replacement. I didn't have anything that came with the machine so I thought I'd try this method.
