This is a limitation of how the script is written. (The script makes changes to the system that apply to every user, so administrator access is required. If the changes were done on a per-user level, administrator access would not be required, but then only the current user could use perl without having to install it - or make the same changes - for every user. I chose to draw the line on the "install once" side.)
Right now, I'm told (haven't checked it myself) that the CPAN script breaks when run by a non-admin anyway. (non-admin may mean "without write access to the perl library areas".) It's on the list of things to review and fix (or workaround - local::lib may be part of the workaround) for October, if at all possible. --Curtis On Sun, 02 Aug 2009 00:28 +0200, "Olivier Mengué" <olivier.men...@gmail.com> wrote: > 2009/8/1 Curtis Jewell <lists.perl.wi...@csjewell.fastmail.us> > > > The .msi installers will require that you are an administrator in order > > to install on the machine - they make global changes to environment > > variables and registry entries. > > > As someone who is starting to study WiX for packaging a Perl app, I > wonder > if this a limitation of the Microsoft Installer or just of the current > WiX > script? > > Olivier. > http://search.cpan.org/~dolmen/ -- Curtis Jewell swords...@csjewell.fastmail.us %DCL-E-MEM-BAD, bad memory -VMS-F-PDGERS, pudding between the ears [I use PC-Alpine, which deliberately does not display colors and pictures in HTML mail]
