This error message happens when a win4lin process is still running.
You have to kill the process. Use the "ps ax" (or what ever
your favorite ps options are) to find the process.

With the 2.0 version the processes are "dosexec", and the
ps listing might show these as "/opt/win4lin/publicbin/dosexec".
When running a normal win4lin session, there are two of these
processes, as well as an "xcrt" process, a "winsock" process
and often an "auserver" process. Normally when shutting down
the win4lin session, all these related processes are shut down
in an orderly fashion.

(In Win4Lin 1.0 the "dosexec" process was named "dos" or "win".)

Use the kill command to kill these processes. E.g. if the process
id is 14411, then use the command "kill 14411".

WARNING!!!! DO NOT use "kill -9" unless normal kill does not work,
because it bypasses some cleanup operatioons.

That lock file prevents running more than one windows session from
the same windows directory, on systems that allow multiple simultaneous
windows sessions. On such systems when you try that, you get
a different error message that says that only one session can be run
from the directory at a time.
