Graham,
I just upgraded. I didn't lose my Win install & didn't have to re-install my
kernel. When you run the install script is says something like "Enhanced
kernel detected", & skips the kernel upgrade part.
There is still some dinking around if you want the sound to work, but it
should come up & you won't lose anything.
When I restarted Windows everything worked fine.
