This might be as simple as rebuilding the initial ramdisk from the updated
kernel with mkinitrd, and re-running lilo.

Generally though I detest initial ramdisks and module loading.  I've been
burned too many times by unresolved symbols or kernel mismatches on the
modules required for booting.

I would probably reconfigure/recompile the kernel and include SCSI and the
adaptec modules in the kernel, rather than as modules.
