Because the Win4Lin virtual NIC has its own MAC address to associate with
the DHCP request. It does not make the request using your physical NIC
card's MAC.

A point of clarification - the virtual NIC is available but not required.
Its specific purpose is to support things like NetBEUI/Network
Neighborhood functions. It adds lots of other little networking features
that were otherwise hampered by Winsock 1.0, and in some cases, network
features that didn't work before will *probably* work under VNET because
it gets around Winsock 1.0, even if they haven't been tested and
specifically stated to work.

However, Winsock networking is still available and fully supported. If
that works for you now, you can use it with Win4Lin 3.0 exactly as it was
used in 2.0. The most common scenario for needing VNET would be to share
files with Windows machines on your home network. If that's your scenario
and you already have a gateway/firewall with a non-routable network "on
the inside" (e.g. a 10.x network for your home machines), you can run a
DHCP server on your firewall which could provide another 10.x address to
the Win4Lin session. Or, you could assign a static 10.x address to the
Win4Lin VNET session upon installation.
