I'm running a stock mandrake 8.0 kernel. The installer detected
this and pulled down a stock kernel. But...
1. I run grub, not lilo, so it was an unpleasant surprise to see
a lilo menu show up on reboot. Fairly minor, all in all.
2. Not so minor: the downloaded kernel panicked on reboot, since I
have a scsi root disk, which needs the sym53c8xx SCSI module to
mount. The win4lin installed created the new lilo entry using
same initrd.img that my previous kernel uses. Unfortunately,
the module load was defeated by symbol mismatches, due to module
versioning. I guess I need to build my own :)
