Hi.
I have now successfully installed win4lin 3.0 on two debian boxes. On
the first one I did a clean install, while on the other one I upgraded
an existing win4lin 2.0.
On this second box, I had the same problem that was reported with the
install stopping after the download at about 80% complete.
I had previously installed win4lin using the rpm command (from the "rpm"
package), rather than using alien to create a .deb file. In some
upgrades that I had done on this box, the "rpm" package had been removed
because of it depended on another package that needed updating.
Installing the relevant updated packages allowed me to restart the
install (and the data files had not been removed so the system
identified the win4lin rpm as still installed). This time it worked
successfully.
So, if you have had this problem, download and install the "rpm" deb
package. Use this to install your old win4lin 2.0 ("rpm --nodeps
rpmfile"). I don't know if just installing the updated rpm that has
already been downloaded is sufficient to complete the installation, or
whether you need to go through the download/install process again (I did
the latter).
Hope this helps all those debian users out there.
/brian
