During my first attempt at installation, I repeatedly got the message "can't create directories or files". A search on the Win4Lin support database revealed the cause: insufficient space on the partition containing /var. Although I was able to get past the problem, my experience points up something that Netraverse should fix: the error message. The cause of the problem is straightforward enough, but there's no way one could guess it from the message. Much better: "The partition containing the /var directory doesn't have enough space for the Windows files."
