Then, in another thread, Mike Badger wrote:

Since my Win4Lin install comes from an alien converted deb
package from the rpm package, it might explain why rpm would say
it's not installed.   However, I do have a win4lin enabled kernel
which is not even detected:

$ grep mki_install_hook /proc/ksyms
c010e218 mki_install_hook

Bummer.

I'll try Jens Benecke's Debian packaging next.
