This is a Compaq Presario 380Mhz K6-2 laptop. 64MB memory, 6.4GB hard
drive.

I've been running a dual boot system of RH (5.2, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 7.0, 7.1) on
it for a couple of years. Never any problems except getting X properly
configured for 1024x768 mode.

Everything under RH has worked "flawlessly". The only problems I've ever
had, are those experienced by several others with similar hardware, and
there's always been a workaround or patch. RH 7.1 is the first release I
haven't had to patch the kernel to get the touchpad to work correctly (seems
this was addressed in the 2.3.18 kernel, or thereabouts).

Tim,
What sort of machine is this PC? It seems so strange that you'd have
problems with this, as the same sort of system for me installed
effortlessly. The only differences I see are:

1) I have 256MB
2) I'm using Gnome

Other than that, I did a pretty complete RH install and have no special
hardware in my machine. ( A Dell 500MHz PIII) and everything just installed
fine.

   I'll keep looking.

Mark
