Just to follow up from an older message about giving Win4Lin its own
desktop under KDE, I had a bit of a fiddle around with my RH7.1 + Ximian
Gnome machine to get a similar result. It was fairly easy. I seem to
recall someone wanted this info, and I don't think any other suggestion
was given.

The main assumption I'm making is that Sawfish is the window manager,
since everything I'm tweaking is a Sawfish option.

Start by opening the Gnome Control Center. Under the "Sawfish window
manager" heading, we'll be playing with two of the controls. "Matched
Windows" and "Workspaces".

First, go to "Workspaces". It's most likely that you'll want to add an
extra workspace for Windows to live in, although if you don't, then you
can skip this bit. I'd really recommend more than one, though. :)

The easiest thing to do is just bump up the "workspaces" setting up by
one. For the purposes of this example, I'm going to assume you start
with two workspaces and go up to three. You can also play with the
arrangement of the workspaces here, but that's for someone else's
documentation to deal with.

Finally, open the "Matched Windows" panel. Hit the "Add" button. This is
a sort of "if ... then" type setup for adjusting window properties
depending on what they are. At the top of the dialog, drop down one of
the boxes at the top left and choose "Name". In the text box to the
immediate right, type "Windows" (this being the text that appears in the
title bar of the application).

Now, down the bottom under the "Placement" tab, check the "Place mode"
box and choose "top-left" from the dropdown box. Then tick "Workspace"
and pick the number of the workspace you want to have Win4Lin running
in. On my machine, it's "3".

Move to the "Appearance" tab and check the "Frame type" box, and choose
"none" from the drop-down.

That's it. Hit OK on both the control dialog and the Control Center
panel. From now on, when you fire up Win4Lin it'll be launched in
Workspace 3 with no window borders or title bar. If you then set your
Windows resolution to match your X resolution you have a Full-Screen
Win4Lin session without the overhead of a second X server.

Oh, you can use Control-Left Arrow or Control-Right Arrow to change
workspaces, since it's likely you won't be able to see a desk guide
applet any more. :)

I hope this helps somebody. If anyone has a different experience, please
let me know. It'd probably be a lot clearer presented as a web page with
screenshots, so if there's enough demand, I'll rewrite it.

Enjoy!

Mike.
