Now that I've got Win4Lin operating on one box (Mandrake 8.0 and
Red Hat 7.1 on the same box), I decided to try an old copy of Kalpana's
Switch Vision (based on CastleRock's SNMPc). This older 16-bit software
(used to monitor network devices) works with WinSock, but requires the
use of a "security device" sitting on the parallel port. (I expect to
upgrade this shortly, but I need to see if it works first.)
I tried under Red Hat 7.1 through the port configured as ECP, and
the Mandrake install through the port configured as Parallel. In both
cases it refuses to load because it "can't access the Protection Device".
Running win4lin as root and setting system-wide configurations, the port
is available to "All". So what's the trick (if any) to talking to such
hardware?
