I ran the installer the first time, but since then have gotten updates
from the ftp site. The installer did not complete for me (although it
did download the rpm, which I was able to install after converting it
with alien.

I removed the Debian package when I upgraded, but don't know if this is
absolutely necessary. I have not removed it when going to later 3.0
versions.

That is all I have needed to do. There have been some messages about
changing file permissions, but I haven't done that and everything seems
to be working correctly.
