And yet, it's amazing how many machines are still running XP, either because their owners are unable or, perhaps, I should say unwilling to fork out for the upgrade or, perhaps again, I should say the cross-grade to Windows 7, 8 or whatever happens to be the current version at that time. I somehow doubt that Windows 8 will last for as long as XP has lasted. 8 Is, in all fairness, quite stable. It also has very much better hardware support than does XP or even 7. But the interface is nothing particularly special. In fact, it's public knowledge that when they released Windows 7, Microsoft had an interface whose default appearance was so strikingly similar to that of another platform of which we may not speak on this list. I'm not sure whether Microsoft changed that in the public release of 7, I remember reading an article to that effect when 7 was in beta and RC phases.
