Hi Mary, Dane, Chris and all First of all, I think that we all need to remember that just because it doesn’t bother us what others write or think, that does not mean it is irrelevant. I for one value your opinion greatly Mary, so please please don’t doubt that fact.
Regarding Winamp, I think it is a sad thing that it has finally come to an end. But I’m not altogether surprised. In fact, I am quite surprised that it lasted as long as it did. VLC, iTunes, Windows Media Player and others have largely moved in on Winamp’s territory so to speak, and WinAmp was always going to be the one to fall away. AOL bought the WinAmp name ages ago because they were hoping to stop the free Internet broadcasting industry in its proverbial tracks. Then, they realised what a mistake they had made. Shoutcast is largely Winamp-based and I think those people who ridicule WinAmp users would do well to remember that Internet Radio is going to be very greatly affected by this decision. Given that a number of people in this group regularly use Internet radio, I would have thought that those proclaiming it is “Much a-do about Nothing” would have been a little more concerned, to be utterly truthful. But there we are, what would I know! Winamp has been a very good product until AOL got hold of it and started packing it with junk. They tried, and failed, to make it pay for itself and so now, it’s about to be consigned to oblivion. Undoubtedly something else will come along to take its place though. As for Mary, she is a respected and valued member of this group and, like every other member, is perfectly entitled to her opinion.
