This suppose to be SetKeyboardState function, not Reset :-)

Indeed that fixed part of the problem, but there is still an issue with the input box accepting more than three characters, where under windows 95/98 it will stop hard at three. Thanks for the fix and pointer though. I'll have a play and see if I can sus the other half out.
