>From the bad configure log: configure:8817: checking for -lGLU configure:8842: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 conftest.c -lGLU -lGL -lSM -lICE -lXext -lX11 -lm >&5 /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lSM Presumably libsm is unavailable, which causes the configure check to fail.
