I love you, Robert, the Ding to my Dong!
I loved reading everything you wrote and I've been proud and happy to have
known you before you wrote for the Chronicle, while you wrote  for the
Chronicle and now after you've written for the Chronicle.  You are a wonderful
writer and were the perfect reviewer.
I remember that once upon a time you attended a workshop for art reviewers and
you came back reaffirmed in your belief that the reviewer should always be on
the side of the artist.
You were always on the side of the artist.  And the artists (including me)
always knew it, appreciated it and were invigorated by your criticism as well
as your praise.
I'll miss you in that role, Robert.  But I'm so happy that you'll get to
explore another aspect of your writerly self.
To end as I began-- I love you, Robert, the Ding to my Dong (that's a Winedale
reference by the way so don't get the wrong idea, folks!)

Robert's wife Barbara Chisholm Faires and his daughter Rosalind hosted a
surprise toast for Robert this evening at the Vortex Theatre in Austin, and
Robert was genuinely surprised and delighted. Robert is leaving his position as
the Arts Editor for The Austin Chronicle after 35 years! You really cannot
overstate his contribution to the Austin Arts community in those years. His
-30- column will run on Thursday in the Chronicle. I'm looking forward to it
and will post here.
So proud that we share Robert in this Winedale community and grateful for the
ways he has used his platform to highlight Shakespeare at Winedale over the
years.
I'm really looking forward to reading what's next from you, Robert. Cheers and
congratulations!
