Title: Re: [Winona] Moving Community Education to WK is a Dum

As I think more about the closure of Lincoln and as it impacts Central Administration the following ideas are thrown on the table of discussion. This, of course, assumes the closure is a done deal

The out buildings at senior high are in my opinion the ideal alternative site for several reasons.

  1. Lots of parking immediate adjacent to the out buildings
  2. Land room for expansion or remodeling to meet the needs
  3. A declining need for this space for high school programs that can not be accommodated in the main building.
  4. Available capitol funds from the sale of other district property to facilitate a cost effective building
  5. Located outside of a school it provides separation of administration duties verses the roll of the principle and their staff as it deals their student and staff needs.

And for those who wish the board to never solve or deal with this issue---

Locate administration in the portable classrooms, currently at the Alternative Learning Center on 5th, and then move the portables to a new campus each year by drawing straws. J

PS Collaborative arrangements and discussions need to be held between the WAPS and SE Technical College administration regarding the needs of the Alternative Education Students and a partnership to enable that population to see the opportunities available to them, if they stay in school and the many offerings the TC has that could draw their interest and point them into a meaningful career and reason to stay in school.

Downsizing our K-12 campus needs can lead to positive student outcomes if viewed with a different set of lenses.
