Did anyone in Winona stop shopping at K-Mart as a result of this effort to reduce their payroll/reliance on human employees?

Yes K-Mart has had them for quite a while in Winona. The idea is to eliminate the check out person. They use multiple checkout machine stations with one person who assists those who have trouble or payment problems.
