Terri and Paul's posts caused me to ask some questions about our
community- I don't think we should drop this discussion.. but rather
ask question that go beyond some of the issues that have been raised
in our thread on Wal Mart so far.
My questions are:
-what creates higher
wages-livable( who are some of the profitable private
companies-locally and nationally, internationally- that pay livable
wages-how do they do it?)? What types of jobs are
necessary?
-what can a community do to position itself to have a higher standard of living for all? Are there communities that have intentionally done it? What are elements of their actions?
-what's the relationship between an education(and what are the features of that graduate?) and better wages?
-where's Winona
now if we take a realistic look at our grounding for a viable economic
future- 5, 10, 20 years from now?
If there are elected
officials reading- your responses or knowledgeable staff responses
would be greatly appreciated by the 200 or so Winona citizens who read
WOD.
