Bob Sebo and others,

I want to be clear I was not "bad-mouthing" the Finn & Sawyer's building, just some of its surroundings as a restaurant setting.  It was built as an office building for Peerless Chain in the 60s and I know it be a stunning, inspired piece of local modern architecture (it was designed by my father).

Subject: Re: [Winona] visioning

a couple of thoughts regarding downtown...

first, i have been assured by the mayor and city manager intend to really focus on downtown issues after riverbend dies down...they're seeking grant funding for a huge downtown study...could be very exciting

second, a new brochure about downtown winona will be printed shortly and is way cool!  the city heritage preservation commission put together a great product...

third, contrary to popular opinion, there is very little empty space downtown...thrifty white not withstanding...additional rehabilitation is an exciting prospect, even a marginal amount of gentrification...but downtown is actually pretty healthy...you guys been in downtown mankato recently?

as for phil badmouthing the old standard lumber building...smiles...it has a view of the river, which zach's does not...

as for bob's ethnic fests, we have the victorian fair...which is a great boon to the city...the historical society makes next to nothing off the event, but it is great for downtown

i think scott's idea of more music in the levee is a great one...and don't forget the shakespeare festival...that could be a plum...
