Todays WDN ran an article about cutting funds for Winona Co. Fair, Historical Society and Victorian Fair. On the face of it, these pale in comparison to cuts to health and human services, and cuts to health care. We still need to keep in mind that support of these cultural activites, such as the fairs, historical society, etc. supports our community in many ways, including creating important oppotunities for social contact, which in turn have implications for mental health, etc.
Dean, I know exactly what you mean by increasing even modestly out of pocket costs for people with limited financial means: it really does mean a choice between food and shelter or medication or medical care. A cruel choice that I thought our society decided our citizens should not have to face a long time ago.

I agree that cutting services to this very necessary and worthwhile
organization for the work they do is unconscionable.
You asked about other examples of cuts that we are aware of?
Beginning October 1st I, and I'm sure every other person who has U-Care
(Medical Assistance) will be asked to make a co-pay on some of the health care
needs provided by the plan.
From a personal perspective for me this means that I must come up with $20 a
month for a co-pay for the prescriptions I have.
Twenty dollars may not sound like much, and I can probably find it someplace,
but for many U-Care with little or no income and families to provide for they
may be forced to decide between health-care for their children and such
luxuries as food and shelter.
