Bob, at the County Board meeting before last, I brought up cutting all per
diem expenses for Commissioners. Marcia Ward agreed with me but we lost on
a 3-2 vote. You're singing to the choir on this one. Please share your
feedback with the other 3 Commissioners. I have also brought up the wage
freeze proposal, starting with the Commissioners first. At best, that
proposal saves about $200,000...a long ways from solving the bigger
problem.

What kind of example does it set toward the private sector when commissioners do more work by trying to resolve budget issues caused by mainly external influences and make less for it. Does that seemingly justify the massive migration of jobs from North America to Central America or South Asia because compensation in these regions is lower, not to mention the lack of external costs such as environmental and safety standards?

The other commissioners did the right by holding their pay steady. Any action toward county commissioners' compensation should be directly in line with that of the employees. The plan that Ward and Voegeli supported clearly did not do that. Attempts to cut commissioners' compensation is nothing more than a political ploy designed to appeal to the minority that views paying taxes as an epidemic rivalling the bubonic plague in deadliness.

The Winona police department should receive the John Latsch, Human Rights award for their efforts to curtail sound violence against prissy white people's pansies from jake braking trucks, while ignoring a real issue right outside the LEC; drivers not using their turn signals. Those poor, oppressed, white people's pansies were whithering to a miserable death from the noise, until the police department valiantly stepped in and defended those poor oppressed pansies by choosing to enforce local ordinances rather than state laws such as 169.19 subd 5.
