The County Board is forming an Exploratory Committee to study the subject of a County wide Economic Development Authority (EDA). The Exploratory Committee is open to all residents of Winona County. According to State law, over half of the 11-15 spots have to be selected by local elected bodies (cities, townships, etc.) but there is still room for 2-4 other people to serve on the group. If you have an interest in the subject please contact the County Administrator's office to obtain an application, 457-6350. Below is a copy of the letter sent out to the local elected bodies last month. If you are interested in the subject, I encourage you to step forward and take part. Thank you, Dwayne Voegeli ===================== Dear Local Elected Bodies, As you may know, the Winona County Board of Commissioners has voted to establish an Exploratory Committee for the purpose of determining the need for a countywide Economic Development Authority. This letter fulfills the notice requirement established by State Statute and required by law. The committee will meet three times and must conclude its report and recommendation within 90 days. Our goal is to complete the process before the end of 2003. The Exploratory Committee will consist of 11 to 15 members appointed by the County Board. Local government units must select at least 50% of the members. To accomplish this, we are asking you to identify at least one person in your jurisdiction that would be interested and willing to serve in this capacity. Familiarity with some form of economic development would be helpful. Please ask your nominees to complete the enclosed Winona County Application Form and return it no later than September 5th. Please be aware there will be no compensation for service on this committee. The Board of Commissioners will provide formal notification of committee appointments to you and your nominees. At the same time, we will send you a survey form which will be used to identify the current level of economic development activities and services in your community.
