8:15 a.m. SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

The school board met in a Special Session this morning to consider a
proposed change to the district's Weapon Policy. The request to revise the
policy came from board member Fred Petersen in order to accommodate a
"Firearms Safety Class' that was being offered this weekend at the Winona
Middle School. The specific revision considered was to allow participants in
the class to bring their personal firearms to the class.

Board members that were present at the meeting were; Steve Kranz, Fred
Petersen, Natalie Siderius, Laber, and Susan Brown. Also at the meeting were
members of the media and Scott Sabotta one of the instructors of the Firearm
Safety class.

After considerable discussion it was decided that the current policy be
followed that would not allow participants in the class to bring their own
firearms to the class. Provisions will be made to get this message out in
the media. Also, instructors from the class and some school personnel will
be present at the first class (October 11) to assure that the present policy
is enforced.

The meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m.

Next Meeting: October 16
5:30 p.m. Closed Session for Negotiations Strategy
6:00 p.m. Regular Board Meeting
