No one here has had anything to say about the WDN piece on Winona, Mississippi.  It's hard to find out much about that place on the web, other than that they have a really big private school for a town of 5700...and their public schools apparently don't have a website  (Winona Christian has a great site).

What I thought was interesting was the picture of the Stars and Bars on page 5...it wasn't on the front page, but...consider the homeless veteran who complained that a(n out of date) Georgia flag displayed the confederate colors at the Veterans' Hospital in Saint Cloud.  They removed all 50 state flags within hours of his complaint.    See today's Star Tribune for details on the veteran story.  This is not political correctness run amok. That's a hurtful symbol for some people.

I've always been fascinated that people even around here will display the confederate flag...I presume simply to advertise stupidity...but I was surprised to see it in the paper.  This is no direct criticism of the paper...but it is intended to be a reminder to us all to be thoughtful neighbors in an increasingly diverse community.
