Orval and WOD,

I found the story link that Orval sent (see below) a real hoot. With all
the Wall Mart bashing lately - which I mostly agree with - I have to say
this story of a lady getting trampled by stampeding customers is not really
Wal Mart's fault. It's the customers'. I don't get in line at 6:00 am to
get a $29 DVD because I don't want to live my life that way, for the same
reasons I don't buy $3 bottles of wine and sleep in the gutter, or go to
Vegas and spend the grocery money on blackjack and prostitutes, or reserve
my Thursday nights for the WWF Smackdown. We all have choices. If your
life is all desperate about getting pushy to buy cheap stuff at the discount
store, then you get what you deserve. I also don't walk alone on Hennepin
Avenue in downtown Minneapolis after midnight on a Saturday because I have a
pretty good idea what I might find there. Same with Wal Mart at 6:00 am.

This is not to get Wal Mart completely off the hook - they are deliberately
exploiting the basest instincts in us. But we don't have to go there
(literally and figuratively) if we don't want to.

I find myself in a spasm of agreement my most conservative friends - the
Devil can't make you do it, just say No!
