Rather than projecting another's motives through our own lenses, I think that we need to consider a "devil's advocate" perspective as a helpful aspect of discussing issues.  Regardless of motives, Paul is delineating a worst case scenario that undoubtably will surface in debates around the country and in testimony to legislators.  We should be able to be open to consider all points of view--even those we disagree with--and maintain rspectful communication.  Having one aspect of an argument distract attention away from other aspects is the nature of debate and we're all wanting the freedom to act in order to make our point of view shine--as long as our actions are respectful.  If we don't agree, we need to respond with facts--not characterizations of individuals or suppositions about another's motives.  Let's try to be more civil to those with whom we strongly disagree Dean.

Clay;
With all due respect I disagree with your initial statement.
I think Paul is totally trying to obfuscate the idea of "gay marriage" by creating straw men such as polygamy, healthcare benefits, etc., to knock down so we can discredit the idea of "gay marriage" without actually addressing the issue.
Dean
