Thank you Larry for responding to my note. I
wanted to be sure that the school board heard from some of us out here in the
public.
I don't necessarily disagree with your
concerns, however, couldn't the land that the Technical College owns and is
letting us use be for general fields that wouldn't require a lot of
permanent fixtures? I don't recall all the specifics but it seems that the
lay of that land didn't lend it self to help the technical college all that much
so they didn't think they would really have a use for it and at that time we
didn't have the money to buy it.
Also Jim Johnson is a nice guy and perhaps a letter
of agreement could be put together. I will defer to Scott Hannon and you
in regard to knowing how much it would take to get the necessary fields
available for soccer, baseball etc. But, I will stand on my defense of use
of the money to do the work because of the greater benefit to the whole
community.
Regarding the request for use of some of the
funds for technology updates etc, I would have to say "why not"! I
suspect that when the school was built and furnished that there was every effort
to be as up to date as possible in that area. But we did have
financial limitations. Now we are a few years later, technology out
dates and if by some magic of interest accruing etc there are still funds to
expend, where else would you spend them? After all it is referendum money,
it hasn't all been spent yet, and it was the vote of the people to use the
referendum for the middle school.
First should come completion of the property for
the use of the students of the district and the city and then if there are still
funds available, look around the school and see what else needs to be done,
upgraded etc and do it. Spend the money on the middle school. That
would put that building in top shape and then other capital improvement
funds could go to the needs of the other buildings.
